Product Description

Provide a safer and more efficient way to practice certain dry fire drills. To safely practice dry fire or reloading drills with the magazine in place, the slide needs to operate without being locked back by the follower. For immediate action drills (tap, rack, fire) the operator needs to be able to reseat the magazine in the pistol, rack the action, and then accomplish the dry fire exercise. These practice drills normally require the use of “dummy” rounds. Besides the nuisance of having to load and pick up the ejected dummies, there is always the chance that a live round can be introduced. The TRT allows the operator to practice the drills without using dummy rounds and eliminates the possibility of accidentally loading a live round during the exercise. When loaded into an empty magazine, the TRT will position the follower so that it will not engage the slide stop. Its low profile allows the slide to pass over it without stripping it from the magazine. For practicing reloading, start with an unloaded magazine to lock the slide back. At the start signal release the empty magazine and insert the magazine with TRT. Drop the slide and complete the dry fire snap on target. With immediate action drills, start with the TRT magazine not completely seated. Dry fire the action and upon the “click” of the hammer or striker, seat the magazine, rack the slide, and complete the dry fire action. For standard dry fire practice with magazine seated, simply insert magazine with TRT and operate the slide to cock the action before each presentation and dry fire. To remove the TRT from the magazine use a pencil or any small tool and engage the small port molded in the top of the TRT. The Shield is one of the very few 9MM pistols that has a reverse indention in the follower. To make the 9MM TRT work you need to remove about a 1/4" of the nose. You can use a coarse file, jewelers saw, moto tool, or any low speed grinder.

A must for dry fire exercises.

A must for dry fire exercises.
This was a game changer for dry fire exercises! I got a MantisX recently and upped my dry fire game since I haven’t been able to go to the range. I’ve done plenty of dry fire but never really done a lot with speed drills. I was finding it pretty impossible to do much dry fire with the slide racking back every time, and I have bigger hands so i didn’t want to remove the magazine and lose the extra length. These are well made and exactly the same product that Rogers sells on various tactical websites. They make dry fire a lot less frustrating.

These fulfilled their purpose perfectly. I have usef them before but needed some more for other magazines. As some other reviewers have mentioned, it is not a dummy round, but this inserts in your magazine and override’s the slide lock function so you can practice your tap and racks, malfunction clearing and do full slide racks during dry fire. Works perfectly in Glock single stack magazines. I can confirm it does NOT work with S&W shield 9mm magazines as it does not fit into the top of the magazine. Dummy rounds/snap caps are a great training tool and you absolutely should use them. This is an excellent training tool as well and highly recommend them for training purposes, especially if you use MantisX for your training.

    Works perfectly
  • Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2024
Usually for dry fire, I would load the mag with "snap caps" or "dummy rounds". However, each dry fire round results in one of the plastic bullets being ejected from the pistol. After the mag is empty, I had to hunt for all the dummy plastic bullets, and reload them into the mag for more dry fire practice.

A single one of these Safety Training dummy rounds (and no other dummy bullets) are loaded into the mag. The special dummy sits on top of the mag follower but is a flattened shape that is not caught and pushed into the chamber when the slide moves forward. This special dummy round just continues to sit in the magazine. Additionally, this dummy holds the magazine follower down so it can't catch and hold the slide back; the slide goes forward (but nothing is actually pushed into the chamber).

So, push this into the top of an empty mag, and rack the slide. When you release the slide after pulling it back, the slide goes forward and the trigger is reset. Dry fire and rack the slide, dry fire and rack the slide. No reloading the mag, no hunting for the dummy rounds.

This round can also be used to practice the procedure for "mis-fires" (bullet completely fails to fire) and "hang fires" (when the bullet fires several seconds later after the trigger is pulled). With only this special training dummy in the mag, pretend that you have been shooting live ammo. Then, rack the slide and pull the trigger. When the gun fails to fire, you have a possible mis-fire. You can now practice your "Tap and Rack" procedure for clearing mis-fires.

I love the concept of this device. Especially the fact that you can practice almost all aspects of shooting and fire safety - including, and especially hitting your target, without spending tons of money on practice amo and range time, or the time to get to the range. It's really helpful because you can practice shooting 360 degree, standing, crouching, laying down, around obstacles, all in safety and in the comfort of your own home where you most likely to actually need to use your fire arm (hopefully never!). My only gripe with this is the same as with every other similarity situated device like snap caps or TRT Tap Rack dry fire safety devices. It will not enable you to practice continuos fire. You must rack the slide every pull of the trigger. One adavtage of this continuous slide racking builds muscle memory, allowing increasing efficiency in that motion. I feel the same about snap caps (their advantage engraining the exercise of emptying your chamber. Both are important for new gun owners. As for continuous dry shooting magazines, there is only one company that makes these, but no models for my very popular handgun. Hope this changes.

I upgraded to the shield arms magazine and their metal catch. They function great once installed. They installed just fine the Glock magazine. It fits very very tightly in the shield arms S15 mag magazine. Once installed, works just fine and it’s not that difficult to remove.

Planning on keeping it installed while playing with the mantis x10, so that’s not a problem.
