Good product: too much work

- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2014I bought this to use on my H&R Pardner Pump (a Remington 870 clone) so I could mount a light on the forearm. For seven dollars, this is a very handy item to have for any gun. It can be used with wood or polymer stocks and frames. You get:
1. The rail itself. It's hard polymer (plastic) and black. It has five grooves for centering your rail adapter / scope mount. It measures 2.55" long and 0.6" wide at the base, 0.835" wide at the widest part of the rail. It's 3/8" thick. The holes are spaced 1.2" apart, center-to-center.
2. Two bolts. They're black metal and use a 1/8" Allen (hex) key for adjustment. I got two of these rails, and no Allen tool was provided with either. They have enough LockTite already on them for one installation.
3. Two oval-shaped nuts. They're a grey steel and have a nipple coming from one end. This is the bottom; the nipple is supposed to sit in whatever hole you're using it in.
4. Brief instructions are printed on the enclosed card.
Everything is very high-quality. If you have a gun that doesn't have a Picatinny rail, this is an easy add-on. Even if there's no holes for it, you can just drill them. The accessories I tried - lasers, light, slings, even vertical forearm grips for a shotgun - mounted on and stayed there. Since the rail is plastic, you can cut it down to suit your needs. As far as my review goes, that's it. This is a great add-on for any gun at a great price.
However, if you plan to use this on a shotgun forearm...
The pre-drilled holes (on the rails you're ordering here) won't work on the Mossberg 500-series or Remington 870 forearm without some modifications:
1. First, you have to remove the forearm from the forearm rails (your manual might call them action rails, etc.). This is done by unscrewing a circular retaining ring from the front of the forearm, then pulling the forearm rails out the back.
2. Then, since the part of the rail that sits with the gun is flat and the bottom of the forearm is round, you'll have to trim some of the forearm to make a flat spot for the rail to not wobble on.
3. Line the rail where you want it, and drill the front hole.
4. The retaining ring for the forearm rails won't screw back on with the oval-shaped "nuts" so you have to trim (with a file or Dremel) one almost all the way to the nipple.
5. The forearm rails and retaining nut go on now. Get it as tight as you can without stripping the threads. It goes on now because the retaining ring WON'T go over the nut.
6. Screw that screw in and through the nut. Don't tighten yet.
7. The screw in the rear won't be able to go into a nut since it's right under the forearm rail and there's no space for the nut. So, drill a smaller hole. Once the rail is lined up where you want it, put some additional LockTite on the threads of the screw.
8. Using straight, positive pressure, screw the rear screw in. Get it tight, but be very careful not to strip it since you're screwing it into the plastic forearm and once you've stripped the plastic, it can't be used in that spot any more.
9. Tighten the front screw. No additional LockTite is needed here, but can be handy.
If you have large hands, you may want to trim off the rear portion of the rail, right behind the rear hole, so it doesn't jam your hand when racking the shotgun. This is easy with a saw; just sand off the end after you've cut.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2012This rail is nothing short of excellent. I can only assume the same for all the sizes. It's expensive IMHO since you can get a pack of rails, plastic or aluminum, for 20 bux from other sources. However this one comes with bolts and fasteners. They work great, I attached 2 rails to my Mini 14, so I didn't even use the MOE hand guard they were designed for. The plastic is strong and the rail is slightly fatter than the aluminum rails I ordered from another manufacturer. This is a very good thing, because I have a laser I bought from a gun show and it's cheap (as most junk from the gun show). The laser is awesome but the mount uses a spring loaded thing, and it wiggles, etc on the aluminum rails but not on these Magpul rails. The fit is snug, allowing me to mount the cheap laser solidly to the mini 14. Luckily theres exactly enough space between the heat shield and the plastic frame of the Mini to allow this rail to mount. The fasteners are low profile stamped steel and are oval. I bought 3 of these and would not hesitate to get more. So go tack on a rail (pun intended).
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2017My actual rating is 3.5 stars.Originally, I saw an indication that this would fit Colt. The product is fine however, unless it is a a 6920 or older design you are in for some real work. Unless you are mechanically competent and have some of the correct tools let a professional do it.
The current Colt and Bushmaster use the same heat shield on the hand guard. See image! This heat shield must be removed, carefully! The sides appear generic as both too and bottom appear to accommodate the gas tube. This is the rub!! Without taking off the shield the screw length is inadequate to engage the threaded washer. One may have to cut some of the material between the holes to make room for the washer. Also a large roll pin starter can come in handy to reseat the upper 4 pins. I don't recommend this procedure unless you are very competent mechanic. If you are brave and feel you don't need the shield the procedure is very simple. I also recommend a flat jaw players to hold the washer while attaching the screw. Use an 8mm Allen as it was not was included!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2023I think it worked fairly well. I had to shave a little bit off to make it fit the way I needed it too but in general I liked having a composite Picatinny rail rather than aluminum because the mating part that attaches to it is composite so I think if you had composite to aluminum with the stronger aluminum, it would wear down the composite faster or I think if you have composite composite do you have a better meeting that I would not use composite for a scope or something of that nature, but . for a removable hand rail I think should work. I have not had a chance to fire the weapon. Don’t know how it will do wonder fire, but it seems good.

Veramente ben fatto, ero un poco scettico per il tipo di materiale che invece si è dimostrato molto solido e durevole.
Leggero e soprattutto fa il suo lavoro

4.0 out of 5 stars made in USA

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product.
Love this little thing. The setup was easy and it adds a lot of functionality to a rifle. Seems very durable and secure. Lights and lasers will keep their zero while attached to this rail.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid
I purchased two of these, and both have worked out just great. My Remington 870 has an MOE fore-end, so it attaches as it was intended and allows me to mount a light, etc. to it. The other, I kind of used in a DIY project, I drilled the wooden stock on my SKS and attached the rail to it so I would have a place to mount a bipod (and I don't like many of the aftermarket stocks available for the SKS). Overall it worked great for both applications! (Photo of SKS attached)
