Product Description
The Starrett SB565Z is an eight-piece brass drive pin punch set to drive pins into or out of a work piece. The set is in a fabric case, and includes pin punches with the following diameters: 1/16", 3/32", 1/8", 5/32", 3/16", 7/32", 1/4", and 5/16". Each pin punch is made from brass, for use with surfaces that could be damaged by harder steel punches. Pin punches are used to place or knock out loosened pins and rivets from workpieces, where they are frequently used to attach something to a rotating shaft. They have a cylindrical body to hold and drive the smaller diameter, flat-ended tip into the workpiece.
The L.S. Starrett Company manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology and testing equipment, and saw blade products. The company was founded in 1880 and is headquartered in Athol, MA.

They came packaged well, the storage pouch is well made and holds the punches quite securely. As others have noted they will leave brass filing all over your hands when you touch them at first, I would attribute this to the knurling on the handles. Just take them all out and blow them off with a blowgun. All of the punches I received were perfectly straight and clearly well machined. You can tell they are a quality made tool just by the look and feel of them. To be honest I would hate to ding them up by hammering on them but that is what they are for.
The price is not cheap to be sure. But if you take care of them and use them as intended I expect they would easily last a lifetime unless you are a professional gunsmith and use them on a daily basis. Very happy with this starrett purchase. If you ever have to work on your firearms I would highly recommend this set. If you scratch or ding up a gun worth $1000+ using steel punches you are going to wish you just paid the 50 bucks and got these instead!

Since I received this punch set I have found myself using them quite often. I keep them in my gun cleaning/range bag and use them to take apart and clean my AR rifle. Perfect sizes for pushing out pins and such. I also did use them to punch out a couple of things as well and they have proven to be more useful than I originally anticipated. When changing out a trigger guard I did slightly mushroom the top on one of the punches, I admit, they were not the correct tool for the job of punching out a roll pin but did just fine and the soft brass was easily reshaped with a couple taps of the brass hammer. They are soft for a reason!!! Still very pleased!
The shafts are very nicely knurled and the punch tips are precisely squared off and sturdy. Punches feel nice in the hand and work well. You'd have to break a sweat to hurt one of these, I can see. I've bent my share of HF punches but that's not saying much.
The cordura flat case doesn't really blow my hair back like the upright plastic holder that the steel version of these punches comes in since I work at a bench, but you can't have it all I guess. Someday I'd like to get the same plastic case for these as the steel set comes with, much easier to grab and move around on a bench and see what you're doing when selecting sizes.
Overall, these are well worth the money for good tools. Buy once, cry once. Life's too short to drink cheap booze or buy cheap tools as my buddy Matt with Eight Fingers always says.
These represent the Starrett name well -- As these punches are brass, they're *obviously* not designed for "hard use".
Some of these other (low-rating) reviews are just astonishing:
"Be sure to use the biggest punch possible to minimize bending." -- file this under "Painfully obvious"
"Too soft for tough pins" -- it's hard to believe someone would think these are in *any way* appropriate for that. They're BRASS. You could chew them with your teeth if you wanted.

Utilisés pour la maintenance d'armes. Le laiton a pour qualité de ne pas marquer au contact d'objets métalliques.
These were perfect for dismantling my air rifle for maintenance where I did not want to dent the steel or damage the Bluing.
They should sit in your tool kit between your steel drifts and your wooden dowling rods.
